This new Design & Construction Management Apprenticeship offers employers an opportunity to invest in their talent pipeline—combining structured academic study with practical, on-the-job training.

Developed with input from industry and closely aligned with the well-established BSc (Hons) in Architectural Design Technology, this apprenticeship equips employees with the technical, creative, and project management skills required to succeed in architectural and construction practices.

This apprenticeship standard aligns with the following professional recognition needed by:

• Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) for Member MCIOB

• Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) for Associate (ACIAT)

What apprentices will learn

This apprenticeship develops core competencies in areas such as:

  • Architectural design, planning, and presentation
  • Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • Design for Manufacture and Assembly theory and digital process
  • Technical detailing and construction methods
  • Sustainable and inclusive design principles
  • Regulatory compliance and professional ethics

Apprentices combine academic study with practical application, gaining valuable experience working directly for your organisation in a relevant job role.

Key information

  • Launch Date: September 2026
  • Duration: 52 months including the end-point-assessment
  • Delivery Model: Fully online (employers are legally required to give their apprentices the equivalent of one day a week off to study)
  • Qualification achieved: BSc (Hons) in Architectural Design Technology
  • Cost to employer: Fully funded via Apprenticeship Levy for levy payers, 5% of total cost for non-levy payers

Marc Fleming

BSc PGDip MSc MCIAT

Marc is a Chartered Architectural Technologist and has a BSc in Architectural Technology and an MSc in Advanced Architectural Design from The Robert Gordon University where his thesis focussed on the algorithmic design of physical estates and infrastructure based on multi-objective optimisation. Prior to entering academia, Marc worked for a range of private architectural practices, including local authority, working on a diverse range of public and private projects ranging from new school buildings to domestic retrofits.
