Honorary Community Luncheon 2026 with Annabel Huffer and Laura Bell McMillan

On Wednesday 6 May 2026, University of the Built Environment held its annual Honorary Community Luncheon at Founder’s Hall in London. This was a special annual occasion for friends of the University past and present and members of the Honorary Community to come together.

They heard an institutional update from the Chair, Ros Kerslake CBE, and outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Ashley Wheaton before we were able to formally award Associate Fellowships to two of the newest members of our community – Laura Bell McMillan and Annabel Huffer.

Guests enjoyed a drinks reception followed by a two-course lunch. The Vice Chancellor gave a short update speech outlining progress on many of the institution’s current strategic objectives and reflecting on his own tenure over the last thirteen years, given the recent announcement of his forthcoming retirement from the University. The Chair of the Board then presented the certificates to the newly awarded Associate Fellows.

Ros Kerslake CBE, Chair of the Board, said: “I am delighted to be hosting the Honorary Community Luncheon as Chair of the Board this year and thrilled to present these highly deserving recipients with their Associate Fellowship certificates. They are very worthy candidates, and I look forward to their long and fruitful association with the University in the years to come.”

Associate Fellowships are awarded to nominees who have been actively involved with the University in recent years, often as supportive alumni of the institution. The award is presented to those usually at an earlier stage of their career or those who have been recognised for significant academic achievement by the University.

Associate Fellows are expected to make an active contribution to the work of the institution. This might include speaking at events or guest lectures, participating in forums, endowing scholarships, bursaries or prizes, providing mentoring opportunities to current students starting their careers in the sector and sponsoring or contributing to research.

The University is delighted to be forging lasting relationships with today’s new Associate Fellows.
