Shadab Bahreini

Biography

Dr Shadab Bahreini is a Teaching Fellow at the University of the Built Environment, with an academic background in Architecture (BA), Urban Design (MA), and a PhD in Built Environment from the University of Plymouth. Her doctoral research examined how public transport systems influence urban quality of life across different socio-cultural contexts.

Dr Bahreini has presented her research at several national and international conferences, including Liveable Cities London, the UK-Ireland Planning Research Conference, and Transport for London. Prior to joining the University of the Built Environment in August 2025, she worked as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Plymouth. She brings experience from both academic research and professional practice in architecture and urban design.

Teaching

Dr Bahreini has extensive teaching experience across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in architecture, urban design, and the built environment. At the University of Plymouth, she worked as a Teaching Fellow (2023–2025) contributing to lectures, workshops, tutorials, and assessment for modules including Common Dissertation, Design Studio and Professional Practice.

Integrated Design, Technology, and History, Theory and Critical Context. Since August 2025, she has been a Teaching Fellow at the University of the Built Environment, teaching on modules including INT4DES, INT4SUS, and INT4BE2. She also supervises BA and MA dissertations, supporting students throughout their research development.

Research interests

Dr Bahreini’s research interests focus on smart cities and smart public transport, with particular emphasis on public transport governance, passenger experience, and the relationship between transport systems and quality of life. Her work explores both technological and non-technological dimensions of mobility, including policy, governance structures, user perceptions, and socio-cultural contexts. She is particularly interested in comparative urban research, evidence-based transport planning, and the role of public transport in shaping liveable, inclusive, and sustainable cities.

Industry

Dr Bahreini has professional experience in architecture and urban design practice prior to her academic career. She has worked on a range of architecture and urban design projects, contributing to the design and delivery of residential, cultural, and public buildings, as well as urban-scale and open space planning initiatives. Her industry experience included leading and coordinating design projects, undertaking site visits, and supporting the supervision of project implementation.
