Biography

Dr Kim Li is a Lecturer in Renewable Energy and Artificial Intelligence at the University of the Built Environment. Her teaching and research bring together renewable energy technologies, environmental engineering, artificial intelligence and data-driven modelling.

Kim completed her PhD at University College London, where her research investigated microwave-assisted anaerobic digestion of waste-activated sludge. Her work combined laboratory experimentation, multi-scale material and microbial characterisation, process modelling, energy assessment and machine learning to improve biogas recovery and understand the thermal and non-thermal mechanisms of microwave pretreatment.

Before joining the University, Kim worked as a Senior Chemical Engineer at the Materials Processing Institute, contributing to industrial decarbonisation, energy efficiency, and sustainable process development projects. She has also worked on research involving intelligent gas composition sensing, life-cycle assessment, and the application of artificial intelligence to renewable energy and environmental systems.
