Biography

David is a chartered surveyor with more than 30 years of combined industry and academic experience across Ireland and the UK. His professional background includes over 15 years in office agency, shopping centre asset management, and commercial property valuation in both regions. During this time, he worked with leading real estate firms such as JLL and Colliers International.

Since June 2022, David has served on the Governing Council of RICS, where he currently holds the Commercial Property seat. As part of his 2024 re-election campaign, he committed to supporting the next generation and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to attract a broader and more diverse talent pool into the profession. He has also advocated for increasing the number of academics achieving chartered status, recognising their key role in inspiring students to pursue careers as RICS surveyors.

David is an RICS Inspire Ambassador, working to encourage secondary school students across the UK to consider careers in construction and real estate. He has delivered presentations at universities in the UK, Ireland, and France to promote RICS membership.

As an ally, David has represented RICS at a range of events, including London Pride, the “Investing in Women Surveyors: International Women’s Day” conference, and a panel discussion at the launch of Building Women. He has also supported outreach initiatives at careers events in collaboration with the Association of Muslim Surveyors Initiative and Muslims in Real Estate.

In academia, David is Head of School for Real Estate and Innovation and an associate professor at the University of the Built Environment. His areas of expertise include property investment, asset management, and commercial agency. He has developed professional training materials and published in Estates Gazette on the application of discounted cash flow techniques in commercial property appraisal and valuation.

David is also recognised as a subject expert in ethics at his university. He has delivered numerous presentations across the UK, Ireland, France, and the Caribbean on professional conduct and ethical standards for chartered surveyors.

Appointments

  • Elected to RICS Governing Council in June 2022. He currently holds the ‘commercial property’ seat on RICS Governing Council
  • External examiner for the MSc Real Estate programme at Liverpool John Moores’ University
  • Member of the ‘Education and CPD’ standing committee and ‘Sustainability’ committee at the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI)
  • An APC assessor/chair for the RICS and SCSI
